Our Current Plan

Since things change pretty frequently around here, I wanted to summarize what we’re doing right now so you all have a place to refer to if you have questions!

As of January 2008, we’re on a plan using home-cooked food Monday through Friday (weekends are S Days). I designed 5 weeks of menus using recipes from my cookbook collection, which I analyzed using the Calorie Count Recipe Analyzer to get caloric info, etc.

Monday through Friday we’re shooting for about 1400-1500 calories per day for Noodlebean and 1700-1800 calories per day for Mr. Peanut. We are trying to keep our lunches and dinners in the 400ish calorie range and breakfast around 100-300ish, so we are both adding snacks along the lines of fruit, nuts, 100-calorie snack packs, small treats (like a chocolate square or Skinny Cow), etc. On weekends and holidays, we’re enjoying “S Days,” which means we can eat whatever we want on Saturday and Sunday (this sometimes involves a lot of craziness, but usually it just means we go out to eat at one of our favorite places once or twice and eat a few extra snacks or dessert).

I’m also trying to make a more concerted effort with exercise. My current program is daily sessions on the elliptical machine of about 20 to 30 minutes, plus a minimum of 5 crunches (though I usually do 20). Gotta start small & manageable!

Please stay tuned to the blog for updates, food reviews, and weigh-ins!

I guess I am confused over your recent post (says week 15 but I was under the impression that you had just started DTG). When did you start DTG? I started 1/4/08 and have lost 31 lbs. But I started out with the 1600 low fat lunch and dinner 7 days a week. This last month I switched to the 1200 but add fruit to try to hit around 1400. I am very sensitive to salt, but I find for the most part the sodium content is not that high – for the most part they are within the daily guidelines for salt. I have found it is portion control so do you think that your weekends off could be doing you in?

Oh, sorry for the confusion. Week 15 refers to when I began dieting at all (Mr. Peanut & I started on eDiets Deliciously Yours, then we switched to Pure Foods Fresh Start and 3-Hour Diet, and now we’re on Diet to Go). We started DTG last Tuesday so this is our first week.

I think my s-l-o-w weight loss is due to a combination of factors… the S days, certainly, but also lack of exercise, plus some inconsistency during my regular weeks because of travel and some issues we had with eDiets deliveries where we didn’t get food and stuff, plus my period and stress and who knows what else? :) I do think my numbers this week could be what they are because of the trip I took last week. I think next week’s numbers will really tell the tale, but we’ll see.

Congratulations on your wonderful success with DTG! That is awesome.

Why are you changing after such a short time on Diets To GO? I have been using BistroMD but don’t like the breakfast and am tired of eating so much Chicken so I am looking for something new. Is Diets to Go fresh or frozen?

    Hi Karyn,

As we’ve mentioned in more current posts, we didn’t lose any weight on DTG. But we got it fresh and you can get it fresh or frozen depending where you live. You might want to read our full DTG report at http://thinbymail.wordpress.com/special-report-on-diet-to-go/.

    Hope that helps!
